The History of Namugongo

In Uganda, 3rd June of every year is martyrs' day which is celebrated in remembrance of 25 young boys both Anglican and Catholic who were killed and barbecued for rejecting to renounce their faith in Jesus Christ or Christianity. The execution took place at Namugongo on 3rd June 1886 orders of King Mwanga. The Kabaka (king) thought the Whites were poisoning his subjects with Christianity to cause rebellion against him. As a result he killed most of his savants at Namugongo. Pilgrims come from all over the world to hour these Martyr's. It is a public holiday dedicated for the commemoration of the Christian martyrs and its historical and religious importance to the country.
